Cleaner 505 is a non-etch cleaner ideal for all cleaning applications where no attack on the base metal can be tolerated. The carefully balanced formulation ensures complete removal of shop soils and light buffing compounds prior to further processing. Cleaner 505 is especially recommended for cleaning polished surfaces of aluminium prior to anodising and conversion coating. Other uses are cleaning non-ferrous metals, including gold, silver, brass and copper. It may also be used to clean steel for certain applications.

A powdered alkaline chemical which when dissolved in water produces a solution that degreases aluminium and its alloys. Used by dip, it does not etch nor dull polished aluminium surfaces nor noticeably smut high-silicon alloys. On extruded aluminium it dissolves out magnesium oxide and prevents subsequent preferential caustic etching. An excellent degreaser, it also removes polishing compounds from stainless steels and is a suitable mild cleaner for mild steel and zinc to prevent coarse phosphating. Complies with DEF STAN 03-2/3 Method B.2(ii).
